Take yours wings outside, you can’t fly in here.

When it comes to music I have phases of bands I listen to. Last year from February up until maybe late November all I ever listened to was Milemarker (check them out!) and I just finally listened to them last week, for the first time since November ’05. I’ve done the same with Explosions in the Sky, Lifetime, Refused, Gorilla Biscuits, and a few others.

But there’s honestly one band that I have not stopped listening to when I first heard of them. I remember that it was 1998 when I heard the song “For Your Lungs Only” by Alkaline Trio. And since then I never stopped listening to them. I can’t say that I know all of their songs, but I know all of the ones from Goddamnit, Maybe I’ll Catch Fire, Alkaline Trio, and From Here to Infirmary. For some reason I never really got into Good Mourning and Crimson, though there are some songs of theirs from those two albums that I know.

I’ve seen this band way too many times for my own good, and I’ve screamed at the top of my lungs to most of their songs. Listening to some of the songs reminds me of certain events over the years, and the more “deep” songs are attached to people. For instance whenever I hear Radio I think of one of my first serious boyfriends, Nick. That’s one of his favorite songs and he’d play it all the time and sing to it. Stupid Kid and This Is Getting Over You are thee songs I played over and over again when Chris cheated on me and broke up with me.

It’s just weird how I can go through phases with bands, but Alkaline Trio is the one and only band that I’ve never left behind. The past couple of months I’ve listened to more Alkaline Trio than anything else in the past year. I’m also starting to get that way with Rise Against. I’ve been playing their album Siren Song of the Counter Culture when I haven’t been listening to Alk3.

    Favorite Alkaline Trio songs:

  • Goodbye Forever
  • Sadie
  • Take Lots with Alcohol
  • Cop
  • This Is Getting Over You
  • Clavicle
    Favorite Rise Against songs:

  • Blood To Bleed
  • Paper Wings
  • Life Less Frightening
  • Remains of Summer Memories
  • Worth Dying For

Oh, and in case you didn’t notice, I put up a new uber-simple theme here at atourworst.org. I think it’s pretty shibby. o.O

  1. I must admit, I haven’t heard any music from those bands, but I always have music playing so now I must download some and give it a try.

    Love the uber-simple theme. 🙂

  2. Ouu. The theme is very Shibby. 😉 Anyways, I’m the same way as you with my music. I like one band, and then BOOM. I’m totally over them. Sometimes their music even starts to annoy me..

    Haha.

Well, thanks for joining JSMB. 😀

  3. I really like this theme! Simple = Good.

I tend to be the same way with albums in particular. I’ll get into an album for a while, and then burn out on it. Then months (or sometimes, years) later, I’ll find a reason to love it all over again.

  4. I’ve loved Alk3 since my BF introduced me to their music years ago. He used to play “Radio” on his guitar for me when we first started dating… I’m gonna go listen to it right now 🙂

I’ve be listening to Rise Against since I heard one of their songs in a video game 😛

You should check out Strung Out… they’re my favourite, you might like them.

  5. I’ve been looking for some new bands to listen too, thanks for supplying you suggestions to the net. I’ll will try downloading some of their work, 🙂

  6. Oooh, love this theme! I love simple things~
I’ve never heard of those bands, honestly. I listen to Linkin Park and Evanescence -only-, ’cause I found other new bands so not me. Those 2 bands have good taste in rock music, so yeah!

  7. The Alkaline Trio is awesome. 😛 Probably the only band/artist that I haven’t stopped listening to is Michelle Branch. 😛
