I love saying I’m a web designer.

Earlier last month I ended up landing a job with a consulting firm in a city next to mine, and have been working for them as a contracted web designer. Needless to say, I’ve been in love with this job. For the first time in my life, I’m actually doing something that I love and actually want to do.

I’m not standing around helping customers with what computer best suits their needs, or selling them Geek Squad services. I’m not wasting my knowledge by ringing up mindless customers with their large Mocha with skim, lite whip, extra chocolate shavings. I am designing websites for businesses. And it feels fantastic.

Right now I’m just putting some last minute touches on my first solo design project for them. Just cleaning up some minor issues, and changing a few things to include some new additions that I got this morning. And you know where I’m doing this? All from home. I haven’t worked from home most of the days–there were some days that I went into the office and worked there. It’s nice because I’ll bring my laptop to the office, and it’s been nice and quiet, cool and dark in there. Perfect for getting a lot of work done.

I’m going up there later on to get my first paycheck, and it’ll be a nice one since I also got a bonus for being the sole designer for the site. Pretty fantastic, that’s for damned sure. Needless to say, I’ve been hit with more creativity because of this, so much that I’ve been working on new designs for Holdfire Network, MyWHMCS, and a quick one I put up for Project Cloverfield.com.

Enough chattering away, time to get finished on this site!

  1. That’s awesome, sounds like the perfect job for you. And damn, I want a Mocha with whip and extra chocolate shavings now…

  2. B-b-b-ut it’s too hot out! Perfect weather for a cookie dough blizzard (or blast if you’ve got Sonic around rather than Dairy Queen!) 😛

  3. It’s awesome that you get to work from home as well as having the perfect job. 🙂 My dad’s friend is also a web designer, but she has to go to an office to work, and they always have a team of web designers on one project so the pay isn’t probably as good.

I can’t wait to see the new design for Holdfire as well. I’m curious to see what the new design looks like, since the current design is awesome, as all your layouts are.

Congratulations on getting your pay check (well, by now you must have gotten it). I hope it has many 0’s after it. 😉

  4. I’m happy to see a post of you being happy considering everything that has happened in the past few weeks.

I don’t see how anyone could make a career out of retail. I’ve only been working retail 2 years now but I am dying to find a way out. I have a feeling that might be impossible until I get out of school in a couple years since no one will want to work around my schedule.

Hey, maybe I’ll get really good at photography and I can just do that on weekends and get by.

Let us see some of these designs when you get done. 🙂

    ::hugs::

  5. It is so great that you can work from home, doing what you like! And saying you’re a webdesigner wherever you’re asked, it must feel good. I haven’t been able to say that, ever, hehe. I don’t think I’ll do it for living so I don’t think I’m ever going to have that chance. I am happy for you though. It sounds thrilling 😀

  6. The job fits you! Being a web designer sounds awesome lol Guess it’ll be a long time before I can land a job like that. It sounds exciting, fun and.. creative!

  7. Sounds brill – congrats on finding & doing something you enjoy. 🙂

I can’t believe it’s been a year this month since I got back into web developing professionally. It’s such a great feeling to have a job you (I) enjoy.

  8. Wow, congrats on finding a rewarding job! I hope when I graduate and find a job, I’ll be able to tell people the same thing, too. 🙂

  9. That’s grand, Jordan!! Glad to hear you are enjoying your new job a lot. When you enjoy work, it becomes anything but work. I’d love to have a job that I enjoy one day. 🙂
