You can never be too vague.

About thirty minutes ago I received an e-mail that I’m still quite giddy over. As you may or may not know, I’m a very huge Virb fan and am constantly on it every day. I even run Stylevirb.com which is a resource website for tutorials, pre-made profiles, and other odds’n’ends (though it’s still bare right now, need to get some content up.)

Anyway, this e-mail was an offer to design a profile for a very large online based band merchandise company. Needless to say I am ridiculously stoked and cannot wait to do this. I wouldn’t even care if I didn’t get reimbursement for it. Getting the offer alone, is enough to satisfy my needs. Then again, who am I to pass up the opportunity to fiddle around with what I know (that being coding and Virb) and getting something back in return.

Since I’m still on the topic of design, I’m about 75% done with the hand-coded theme. I have about 90% of the skeleton complete. That other 10% leaves the ancillary section of the website. Otherwise the overall concept is finished, it’s just a matter of finishing up the base wordpress theme pages, fixing up the graphics, checking browser compatibility, accessibility and validity and reworking the content. Though I’ll worry about the content after I put up the theme. Thanks for some of the peeps at Snark for providing some excellent constructive criticism.

  1. That’s awesome! Do you know if Virb is still growing? Is it still a possibility it will become as popular as MySpace? That must be so flattering anyway… Well done.

I saw your theme at Snark. It looks great, but I’m crap with design and criticism so I stay out of giving advice!

  2. I think Virb has so much potential but the basic knowledge it takes to customize a profile might be too overwhelming for Myspacers, as evident by the millions of browser-crashing profiles. It’ll make a site like stylevirb that much more important.

  3. I did read the legal terms & blah blah blah blah blah. It is easy money, for the simple fact that you aren’t doing a damn thing but displaying a link on your site. Its free, and you have a chance of making money. And I’m not going to sit here & type out the whole T.O.A., I would assume they would read them on thier own if they decide to click the link. 😀

  4. I’ve been procrastinating on my virb profile for a looong time now… next week seems like a good time to start working on that 🙂

  5. I saw you mention this over on Snark. Congrats! It should be really fun for you, right? Always best to make money doing things you enjoy.

  6. Thanks to everyone for their comments, I really appreciate it!

Angela – That is exactly the main reason why I decided to start this up; There are so many people that go to websites solely dedicated to myspace layouts and whatnot. I know my little sister is constantly on them looking for new layouts to use.

Malin, I got your friend request earlier and accepted it. I’m your first friend there, yay ;P

  7. I’ve not been to Virb for a while, it seemed to be a dying site last time I was there, covered in google ads for blogging tools and ‘make money online’ ads – which are never a good sign. The custom side always looked really flexible though – sounds fun!

LOL, you’re joking right? There’s two ads; One that displays on the backend, and a footer banner that displays on every page. Google Ads are contextual and are also “smart” and bring up ads from previously viewed pages/cookies/etc.

It’s also not dying, especially considering that’s it’s Alexa has jumped over 100,000 in the past few months. So really, might want to look into things first, before considering it as such 😉
