Dead Like Me

A few years ago when I had been dating Antoine, he introduced me to Dead Like Me (official). We ended up the entire first season, and when it was over he told me that it had been canceled after season two and wasn’t going to be on air ever again. I was really sad to hear about it, because I really loved the show.

Dead Like Me

Meet Georgia Lass (who prefers to be called George). She is a young Seattle college dropout who is unhappy with life. She is always at odds with her mom, Joy. One day coming back from her temp job as a filing clerk, she is hit by the toliet seat of the re-entering Space Station Mir. Finding out she is now dead, she is recruited to become a grim reaper. As in life, she is a pain in the butt in death. She does not like the details of her job, and is always at loggerheads with her boss Rube. Her fellow grim reapers don’t really take much of a liking to her either. She also learns grim reapers don’t even get a free ride in death, as they must hold down regular jobs along with their death duties.

I recently remember the show when I read that they were doing a straight-to-dvd movie of it, AND because it was a featured item on sale at Amazon where each season was 60% off. Of course, the only reason I even went to Amazon was because an old account of mine on Blingo had generated a prize for me to accept.

You see a few years ago, a friend of mine had posted about Blingo.com and said that you can earn prizes by using their search engine (though I think it’s powered by google anywhere, but nonetheless.) I’ve won a few times there, namely Fandago movie tickets, but I got an email today saying that my referral won, thus I was able to pick out a prize too. It was $5 to amazon, or a fandango movie ticket. Since I don’t really go to the movies that much anymore, I opted for the Amazon ticket.

So there you have it. I ended up getting $5 off of my order, and got both seasons of Dead Like Me for only $30 including shipping. Woot!

Close to home

Yesterday, a local Lane Bryant was involved in an armed robbery that resulted in five of the women in the store being shot. Four of them were pronounced dead, and one shortly died later from the injuries sustained. I was in shock namely because this is just a few miles from where I live. I shop in the strip mall every month. Hell, I worked at the Best Buy that was in this plaza.

I’ve been keeping up with all of the news articles, and the Chicago Tribune, Five victims named, sources say sixth survives, announced the victims names, as well as Lane Bryant putting up a $50,000 reward to help catch the piece of shit that did this. There’s a lot of differences between newspapers and news reports, but apparently he made the woman go into the backroom, and whatever happened in there, he subsequently shot them all.

His victims were: Connie R. Woolfolk, 37, of Flossmoor; Jennifer L. Bishop, 34, of South Bend, IN; Rhonda McFarland, 42, of Joliet; Sarah Szafranski, 22, of Oak Forest and Carrie Hudek Chiuso, 33, of Frankfort. May you all rest in peace.

I will never love my car.

I bought my car in 2004, used from a local Ford dealership. I think I paid about $6500 for it. It’s a 1999 Ford Escort ZX2, and at the time it had about 60,000 miles on it. Right now it has about 110,900 miles on it, and luckily enough has no major cosmetic damage (excluding some scratches near the keyhole on my trunk, and uhm, this dent in my bumper from a friend…)

But I’m just had so many problems in the 4 years of owning this car, that it’s caused so much financial burden on me (and my dad), that if I could sue it, I would.
2005 – $1530
2006 – $3000
2007 – $900
2008 – TBA (I’m going to guess around $200-300)

I Need To Catch My Breath

I’m finally back in my own bedroom right now, but I can’t help but still wish I was out in Wichita, KS (okay, technically Andover, but pfft!) with Travis. Secretly I was ready to get back home, see my family, sleep in my own bed, and fiddle with my own stuff… But now that I’m home, I don’t even want to be here! Emotions aside, I really have a lot of catching up to do.

Unfortunately I slacked off a bit with Holdfire Network and MyWHMCS, so I tried to catch up on most of the in the past hour (which is exactly how long I’ve been home.) Oddly enough I missed a few support tickets somehow, which I don’t know how that happened since I made sure to check on them constantly.. But it happens, and thankfully I know my clients will understand as most of them are my 2+ year clients and closer clients. It still wasn’t fun having to sift through over 200+ emails just from the past few days (especially since I didn’t get online on the 19th and 20th.)

I have so much that I want to blog about but I just don’t have the energy to do so. I guess I’ll just give a brief synopsis on the past few days:

  • Went out on Friday night and saw Cloverfield.
  • Managed to find Halo: Combat Evolved at Best Buy for $10.00.
  • Also bought Prey, and Halo 2 at a trade-in store for $20 total.
  • Met all the guys I play Halo 3 with on Monday for a brunch.
  • Played way too much Halo 3/2/CE throughout the entire week; Also managed to play way too much Rock Band.
  • Fell in love with Travis’ mom, brother (Brandon), and sister (Becca.)
  • Overdosed on love and affection.
  • Made money from my work every day for almost two weeks straight.

I think it’s time to go to sleep. My head hurts. Jetlag ftl!

A Great Start for 2008

Right now I’m just sitting in Travis’ bedroom checking my email, Snark MB, and waiting for some multi-player maps for Halo 2 to finish downloading.

So far I’ve only been here since Saturday, but I’ve been having such a blast. The flight from Midway (Chicago) to Denver, Colorado was amazing. I’ve never been on a plane before, but I wasn’t even really nervous about that. I was just more nervous about what to do once I got into the airport… Luckily for me the guy checking his bags in behind me, ended up sitting next to me on the flight, so I was able to ask him advice/questions and he didn’t mind at all!

We ended up making up 30 minutes in the air; At one point we were going 500+ MPH and hit an altitude of 38,000 feet. It was just absolutely gorgeous being able to see places like that. The only bit that sucked was waiting 2 hours in Denver’s airport for my flight to Wichita… Oh, and the flight to Wichita.

Rather than a jet, I was on a propeller airplane, which was uber small. It was loud, hot, and I was stuck sitting behind a crying baby, who reeked of baby shit the entire time. Thank god it was only an hour flight. Otherwise it was nice walking off of the plane, and then getting to see Travis. And we’ve been together since then.

Laid around Saturday night and watched some of Shoot ‘Em Up and had Papa John’s pizza. Yesterday we spent the day laying around, met his friend Trent (otherwise known to me as DarKobra on Halo 3) and then went back to his place and played Halo 3 and other bits.

Today we went to brunch with the guys we play Halo 3 with–Redneck (Andrew), DarKobra (Trent) and GreedyGuttz (Brian.) It’s weird because you hear their voices when playing and that’s it–and then you get to see them in person. It was nice because we just talked shit, and had a decent breakfast.

Right now like I mentioned, Travis and I are waiting for some Halo 2 maps to download, and we’ll end up playing that for a few hours, and I think after that we’re going to his friend’s house (though I think he just wants to sit around and chill.) Not sure what else we’ve got planned, but I do know all of us Halo 3 bitches are going to see Cloverfield on Friday night.

Oh, and last week was amazing week for work. I managed two snag two new clients with freelancing, and a bunch of new clients for Holdfire Network and MyWHMCS. Needless to say that I’m not suffering by having this week long vacation. I don’t even know if I want to leave, I’ve been having so much fun! :o)
