Didja miss me, huh huh huh?

Sorry I didn’t post about the maintenance that I was going to be doing on the server. Remember how I wanted to go ahead and install Ruby on Rails? Well, I went ahead and added it to my server, though I didn’t want things to be ruined while it was online, so I denied most http access to websites for about 24 hours. This is partially because I did some other configs and upgrades here and there, and fell asleep on it last night before I had a chance to turn it back on. Whoops!

We’ve gotten so much snow is quite disgusting. It was a bit of a blizzard yesterday, and because of all the ferocious winds we have 2 foot snow banks throughout the driveway (especially behind my car, thanks!) I’ll take pictures of it later on, and of the yummy things I’m making right now.

Oh yeah, why haven’t I listened to Regina Spektor until now? I love her voice.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Ruby On Rails

Well, I’ve been so obsessed with RoR lately, that I’ve finally dipped into it, instead of reading up on it. Since I’ve got the server for Holdfire Network, I think I might add Ruby On Rails to it. Not only because I want to use it (although my accounts with Dreamhost and Surpass Hosting have RoR) but I think it would be a perfect add-on for reseller accounts. Although majority of my clientèle doesn’t seem to be the kind that would be interested in RoR, it might inspire some new people to sign up with my services.

Even though I’m tagging these for del.icio.us I’ll go ahead and post up some of these links in case some of you are interested in them:

Applications I can’t wait to try:

Since it’s already quite late tonight, and I’d rather not do SSH commands while I’m yawning and rubbing my eyes, I’m going to save the install for tomorrow. Right now I’m just finishing the design. I finally figured out why e-mails from one of my servers, were not sending out mail. Turns out when I created the new cPanel account for holdfire, the guy who helped me never created the new e-mail accounts through it. Since my MX entry is pointing to google’s, this caused an issue for e-mails being sent from any app on the server.

It didn’t even dawn on me about the e-mail accounts. I just assumed that it was a misconfiguration on the server, and was about to look into not using Google’s Hosted services. It’s also very discouraging finding that minor issue though, due to the fact that I’ve missed a lot of crucial e-mails that were sent through my client control panel’s for pre-sales questions. Oh well, at least I fixed it. It even motivated me to get my butt in gear to finish the last few pages up.

Now only if the .htaccess file would work currently so I could rewrite the urls to be SEO friendly. If any of you know that proper code to rewrite a url (eg: website.com/about.php, website.com/about-contact.php) to another (eg: website.com/about/, website.com/about/contact) I would really appreciate it, as this would be much more aesthetically appealing then seeing the file extension on the end.

Deep dish spinach pizza

Mark and I went crazy on making pizza this weekend. Last night we ended up making a BBQ beef pizza. We made the dough (using the breadmachine and the recipe for it), used KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce, mozzarella cheese and deli-style beef. I also made breadsticks from the remaining dough from the first batch.

After I made the pizza, Mark went ahead and made more pizza dough. We thought we were going to make another pizza last night, but ended up realizing that we would’ve been stuffed regardless. So we saved it for today. Ended up making spinach and pepperoni deep dish. Used fresh baby leaf spinach, pepperonis, homemade pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese and the dough from the other night. It was absolutely amazing.

For the past week, I’ve made a homemade dinner. Tonight is going to be the first night, though technically I did make lunch. Phew, all this cooking and I’m kind of worn out. Though I really need to find a frosting recipe that actually works. I’ve already tried three recipes and all have failed. They come out too runny or just not mixed well enough.

I need to get something done by Tuesday, because I want to have it for Valentine’s Day. I have a feeling Valentine’s Day is going to end up being just like any other night, as opposed to doing something really nice/cute/romantic. Oh well.

Trying to tap the creative juices.

The redesign is still coming along very smoothly. Though I have to be honest, TNT has been distracting me most of today as there’s been movies upon movies on tonight. I don’t work well with the tv on, and I don’t work well with the tv off.

Today I’ve watched: Trapped, Twisted, Signs, Sleepy Hollow, and that’s it so far. You figure about 2 hours a movie, so far I’ve watched six hours of movie, and gotten about 45 minutes of work done.

Mark is on his way over right now, and then we’re going to head out to go pick up some groceries for the homemade BBQ Beef pizza I’ll be making. Maybe I’ll include a recipe and some pictures of it when I’m done. Maybe even some pictures of Mark and I, since I’ve failed the last few times trying to take them. Off to get some stuff ready for the pizza.

Hosting ain’t easy.

I’m almost done with the new redesign for Holdfire Network. Some of the new things have been reseller packages, upgraded shared plans, the removal of one [unpopular] shared plan, and a HUGE Valentine’s Day promotion. It’s going to be really awesome, at least I hope so.

Hopefully with the new design and promotion, I can bring it a lot more clients and get things rolling again. For the past few months, things have been VERY slow, and it’s kind of sad. I like getting new clients and watching new customers come in from word of mouth.

Once this design is done, I’m sure I’ll be in the mood to promote for it again. I know that’s one thing I haven’t really done lately, and well hopefully I can change that.
